exactly, larger fines coupled with licences being revoked / refused would be a better deterrent

Possibly they should have ALL their licences revoked, three years too young is a LOT. (Drink Tobacco and fireworks)

I Agree, big fines and a ban on the premises selling not the person, too easy to get around.

Just pushes the argument that pop up / corner shops shouldn't sell fireworks.

Just a thought...but I wonder how many seasonal sellers (here today, gone tomorrow) are tested by the local authority.

Can't speak for any other area, however Trading Standards peeps in Chesterfield focus on the types of shops they have most issue with, which is generally the seasonal sellers.

I don't think we have been tested for the past couple of years, we must have a decent reputation

Might have something to do with that photo you took of him last time, looking at the rack of nurse's outfits etc.

The level of fine is probably linked to the net profit made by the retailer from the sale of fireworks. I think the most important point is the fact that the retailer is in court and has been prosecuted. They won't do it again (hopefully) and the action should act as a deterrent to others. Many retailers only sell smaller volumes, particularly this kind of firework retailer. They don't sell the larger volumes that those of us reading this post probably handle.
