I agree with Andy P's comment that this is a brave move Pete, but one that in these "troubled" times could quite easily spell the difference between the death or survival of UKFR.

This will be an interesting time, and if it means that membership rises all the better.

Excellent idea Pete! I'm sure the loss in subs will be more than offset by the extra page views of the adverts... Be sure to set up the necessary analytics to provide figures to tempt advertisers in though.

Just an idea, maybe you could charge for Premium Content - say for high quality downloads of good firework displays.
Tony over on the freaks site is playing around with it, some sort of software tied into vimeo, users can see the embedded video clip, but he may charge €1 to download a full HD version, he's doing it for the Nit de Foc from Valencia this year.

Anyway, I think opening up the website will bring you a lot of interesting possibilities.
