Default Forum thumbnails

I have increased the size of the thumbnail images the forum generates when you upload an image as an attachment (which you can then insert into your post, if you prefer to do that instead of linking to an external image) from 100 to 200 pixels.

There is an option enabled where if you hover over any thumbnail it will expand automatically in a nice frame but this is currently not working because of something or other which I will try and fix another time. In the meantime you can of course click on a thumbnail to see it full sized.

Julian you mentioned having to crop your window image to get it uploaded in the first place. What were it's dimensions and file size? I can increase the allowances so it'll be possible to upload similar images directly in future.

You wouldn't want to / shouldn't do that, Pete. 3648 x 2736 pixels & 4MB file size as a jpg.

I was going to put a small copy on my web domain and link to it, but something's not OK with it at the moment and I've not had time today to work out what. The hosting folk have recently changed things, so I think I've to work out what needs resetting. So I opted to upload & attach using the forum facility.

What I'm thinking is for people who want to upload a pic from their camera and they are getting pretty big these days.

Yes........ 3648x2736 & 4MB was direct from my camera. (And that was from the bog standard compact camera - not a higher standard SLR etc.)

A couple of thoughts against going down that route....... I think that'd be overkill for web viewing. And maybe more importantly - it'd also make it possible for anyone to nick for whatever use elsewhere the original full resolution photo. I much rather prefer to show smaller, lower resolution, more compressed photos online.

Yes quite agree about web use of images etc but I didn't explain myself very well, what I meant was for those people who want to upload a picture direct to the forum like that, but who don't have the tech know-how to resize it etc. Those users already thinking about someone nicking the source image are already at the level they can resize the image first if they want to At the moment the forum forces everyone to a maxumum photo size even if they want to upload a bigger one and I think those settings are out of date.

Ah, I get the picture now. (Groan!)
I've not added anything to the gallery for a while - but didn't it have the ability to resize photos into the standard / maximum size it displayed? So folk could simply upload what they'd got and the gallery would take care of everything...... or is my memory playing tricks as I get older? But would that be the kind of facility that would be useful here, with a bigger, more up-to-date picture size? Does such a thing exist as a forum plug-in?
