The man quoted in the article says:

"Yet we can have youths roaming the streets with £167 worth of fireworks without any control."

But there ARE controls.

No-one under 18 can buy fireworks.
No-one under 18 may be in possession of fireworks in a public place.
No-one can use fireworks in a public place.

Two of them were 18 though....

It is a sad story and i feel for her family. I think the `youths` have got off lightly.

i can go into a shop and buy knifes, i could use it to stab someone, should we ban knifes ?.

they could have also bought petrol in a can and pour it in her house to burn,

all items can be used for a bad purpose, but its the person who uses it for wrong that's bad not the item

Dear Mr Kennedy

I feel compelled to write with regard to your recent comments about the sale of fireworks and how dangerous they are!

As a firework retailer I really cannot understand someone of such an upstanding position as yourself coming out with such ludacris comments! Probably just to get a bit of media attention in what is a very very tragic case. My sympathys go to mrs Fox's family and friends.

However, fireworks are already very heavily legislated and banning them wont stop this type of incident happening.

I don't see you calling for a ban on the sale of knives after the stabbing in cornwall BBC News - Man jailed for stabbing bar manager in Cornwall or calling for the ban of the sale of petrol after a group of teenagers where caught with petrol bombs, Teenagers stopped with petrol bomb or the ban of cars after 60 people we're killed on the counties roads in 2009.

I believe you gt my drift, everything is dangerous in the wrong hands, whether it be a knife, fireworks, petrol, bleach, etc etc but we cant stop or ban the sale of everything to everyone!

May be next time you will think before making such rash statements.

Regards.
Mark Priest

Yes! Just ask Mr and Mrs Dando whether banning hand guns made their daughter Jill any safer!

I couldn't agree more, Mark.

I find it so annoying when people "in a position" make such ridiculous comments...He is obviously one of the anti brigade.

our local councillor 6 years ago july time decided it was a great time to ban all firework displays on councial land in peterborough apart from a small selected sites. though they said no sites had been selected (though he was very anti fireworks and you could see what he was trying to lead to.)

just one problem after many calls and the council not giving any help it was October and they still hadn't selected any sites. but was still refusing any application to use any fields to do a display.

so after phone call to the newspaper a front page in the local paper saying how was the we suppose to do a charity event to raise money if the council was refusing all displays

the next day i had a phone call from the council saying they had approved my application and also allowed all 15 others (though for some it was to late) and they also dropped the selected sites idea

some people just have no idea and don't want to listen
