So he was the only fire fighter hurt in this - and he has only just realised this far down the line that he wants to sue?

Sure i agree with the lost wages etc, but what f**ks me off most about people claiming is the amount the get - my cousin went up the arse of some dorris, they tried to do him for speeding in a 20, after investigating the road, skid marks etc and looking at the minimal damage on both cars, it was estimated he was doing the required speed if not between 20 - 25.....after 4 days (had chance to talk to family) she claimed for the classic whiplash - £4000 she got and was off work for a week.

Sure that fire fighter should get lost earnings, but we all know it will prob go way beyond that, and all for doing a job he accepts carries and injury risk anyway.

Put it one way, you wouldn't join the army and try and sue the taliban for getting shot would ya.......after all it was Bin Ladens fault for telling the taliban to fire (thats how it works aint it blame=claim!)

as far as im aware the only one seriously hurt and he hasnt just decided to go for compensation, he had to wait to see who was deemed as responsible for who to claim from that is as i understand it. yes i agree with you on people makin false claims

what you have to remember if your hurt in afganistan you do get compensated and yes the bill at the end of the war should be pasted on to the losing opposition (history lesson after the first world war germany was handed a bill that they would of still been paying until 1998 if the second world war had never happened)

all the fire service guys i know accept the risk of the job many have the scars to prove it but this isnt a week of work injury not saying he should get thousands just a fair settlement if the courts think its fair

I am happy to agree on a 'fair' settlement based on lost wages - and extra expenditure needed to cope with injury - but as i say, in most cases they seem to get well above that.

Lets just see what happens.

Whilst I fully appreciate the majority of all the comments posted, and not really agreeing with all of them!, as an ex full time firefighter there is a certain amount of patch information that every station keeps on appliances, i.e a high risk folder, that folder would contain every high risk premises on their patch, this information would also be kept by the control room, but, and its a big but, you only have to go back to dutch fire at enschede, this factory was only licensed to store 1.3G, yet the forensic tests on the huge container that blew confirmed it was storing 1.1G!, the point here is its alright attending a job, and risks involved with that job, if the information in the risk folder is correct. If its not.....then perhaps their might be case to answer.
