Default Equipment for a trainee

Hello again,

I'm in the process of aquiring gear for my training which i've no doubt will increase as i go along, but I have my first show at Edinburgh this weekend.

So far I have the following:
  • Head torch
  • Cable ties
  • Leather punch for joining quick match
  • Insulation tape
  • Loggers helmet or whatever they're called
  • Boiler suit
  • Side cutters
  • Scissors
Any other bare essentials i'm missing?
Thanks
Nicky

That's a new one on me (and others here I suspect!). How do you join QM using a leather punch?

Similar to how you do it with end cutters I imagine?

Having your own tools is always handy, but make sure you mark them in some way so you know which are yours - I would hope the company you work for provides tape/ties etc but I guess a few spares wont hurt

Yep similar to end cutters, something Galaxy has taught me.

You tape the end on to the joining QM, then tape again about an inch gap away to secure it. Make a punch in the middle and tape it tight round the punch hole. I was amazed it works but every one fired.

Fully Fused showed me something like this a few years ago. Punch a hole in the QM & make the T through the hole, tape-up.

waterproofs, mallet, gloves, towels, towrope, duct-tape, toilet roll (for blind shells) food & drink.

Got any photos of the QM joints with the leather punch, I am intrigued to say the least.

dont have any photos but just mocked up some "steps" that I hope explains.

basically you have two pieces of QM overlapped, secure them, cut them (I use end cutters, I guess a punch would have similar end result), tape them up and then finally give the joint a good squish to help with the "mingling" of the two pieces of QM you originally started with
