Still, each to their own...

What HiFi was my bible for many years and they did a feature once on people who 'claimed' to have the best hifi in the world...kinda thing. This was basically an excuse to go round to various people's house and oggle at the glorious array of boxes.

This is just 2 channel hifi we're talking about btw.

Anyhow, there was this one chap who even had a room designed I think, really went to town but the point of the story is that he's amp was rated at 30 watts RMS and everyone from the magazine agreed the system was one of the best they'd ever heard.

Massive amplification is utterly pointless as is massive amounts of bass, the best amps in the world have no tone controls or if they do, they have a defeat switch to take them out of the signal path because if the mix and mastering engineer has done his job probably and you've taken the time to partner your cd, amp and spkrs properly, why do you need a tone control to turn the bass up ?

Home Cinema is a bit different and is far less subtle, needing lots of bottom end for explosions etc. etc but that is an entirely different thing and frankly I'd never want to play music through a cinema system.

Sorry rant over...

Chiefs bods sound like the sort of people who buy gold-plated mains plugs for their home system.

(Yes I've seen adverts for them!)

Woah there tiger! I was completely with you until you said the above swear. Ludicrous amounts of bass are always necessary, me and my 15" says so.

(ok, that's not in my car (standard) or part of my stereo (non-existent) but in the amp for my bass guitar, but my stance remains; deny the bass and I'll plug in outside your house and brown note your entire family into submission!)

...but we're now talking about a completely different thing...a large bass rig for live music is often a given, depending on the musical genre of course, as are the bins required in the PA to do it justice

You're welcome any time to plug in outside my house but I might have trouble hearing you 'cos I'll be plugging in 350 watts of Line6 HD147 amp head into a 4 x 12" cab

I've only ever had the volume up to half way and it's one of the loudest things I've ever heard even at that level and I'm including being close to a F1 car flat out in that comparison

Sorry this is descending into 'my dog's bigger than your dog' and we all know that Bruce is bigger

Don't forget the speaker cables that have to lie in the floor the "right" way up!

Speaking of cables his power cable to supply the amps is 0 gauge (car audio term i think) and is 21mm thick!
