Because it makes no difference to the sound?

Hey, at the end of the day it's you coughing up the cash, so if you can sit there and tell me that those freebie interconnects you got in the box and that roll of bell wire you dragged outta the shed make no difference to the sound of your hifi, then all power to you 'cos you're gonna be quids in compared to me....but maybe you just need to listen to some better quality hifi

Best speaker wire on the planet is 2.5 or 4mm solid conductor twin and earth. Oxygen free? Thats as good a one as putting snake oil in your gearbox to liberate massive BHP

Ohms law gives you all you need to know, lower resistance is king and thats a function of cross section copper

Have been looking at a nice 970W sub woofer for the new car's boot though, seeing as the cabling is already there thanks to Mr plod interestingly its 970W music power and about 40w RMS

there is of course the law of diminishing returns....

For my home speakers I "invested" in cable that cost me £3 per metre and I could tell the difference between that and the "bellwire" that I had intended to use.

Now, would I tell the difference between £3 per metre and £10 per metre, possibly, but I doubt the improvement would be as great as I initially experienced and would cost me an awful lot more.... diminishing returns

I was happy to pay £3 per metre in the same way I am happy to play music through the speakers I use for home cinema (albeit some nice little KEFF speakers) - other people with a more acute ear and deeper pockets may wish to go further ££££££.

Definitely agree with the law of diminishing returns and it applies, very much, to the actual kit itself - I reckon most people could hear the difference between a £100 CD player and one costing £1000 but how many would hear a difference between players costing £1000 and £5000 or £5,000 and £50,000 ?

The hifi store I worked in for a few months offered a relocation service for customers when they moved house. One guy we went to had spent £20,000 on a Naim system, two channel hifi, CD only and there must've been about a dozen individual boxes of kit to move...mono blocks, separate power drives for volume pots, AC stablising kit etc etc....on paper this should've been the best system I was ever likely to see, let alone hear.

I've never been more disappointed in my life, it left me absolutely cold, no sense of depth or space to the music (I forget what we listened to).

Best system I ever heard...Rotel CD, Denon amp, B&W 601 speakers, bi-wired with Cable Talk spkr cable, Atacama spkr stands, total cost £2,500...listening to something like Van Halen's 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge' album, jaw dropping.

Always let your ears rule your cheque book

And if we're honest, what do most of us listen to most of our music on now?

For me, it's the car radio via Bluetooth, iPod 'bud' headphones, or crappy PC speakers; while the Hi-Fi stuff stands idle.

Very true

I'll get off my soap box now, perfectly isolated with squash balls cut in half and free from vibration you understand and go sit back in the corner with an old copy of What Hifi and a box of tissues

Peace
