Default Lightning shell classification

Has anyone heard it said that the flash content of 5" cylinder lightning shells could make them 1.1G rather than 1.3G?

Seeing the damage they do to tubes I wouldn't be surprised if all the flash was in the lift charge......

Our's are 1.3G..... 5" and 6".

Talking about violent lift charge, I have some tourbillion Cyinder shells that are absolute MONSTERS. Certainly not something to fire from paper tubes!

After seeing the significant difference between both 5" spherical & clyinder shells, i'm not supprised either. I wouldn't mind seeing what the composition diffence between the two are on paper.

Lots of cylinder shells use Benzolift as opposed to conventional BP, its a hybrid lift powder, very very powerful! (Cylinder shells are heavier than typical spherical shells)

Something like 70/30 Whistle mix / Black powder

(whistle mix only whistles when its pressed in a tube, in its powder form it is far more powerful than many flash powders, its even used as the booster charge (initiating break charge) in larger shells).

You certainly feel the lift when a shell is fired with Benzolift!!

Why not just use the appropriate amount of BP?

Why use more BP when you can use less Benzolift?

Keeps NEQ's and overall weight down i suppose.

Yep Benzo is used as a supliment for flash in shells as a burst booster. But using it for lift is crazy. Check out the way the Maltese make their lift charges for the big 8" multibreak cylinders, it's actually a strung canister.
