Default Single Event insurance

I learnt recenty that some single event insurance will cover the use of Cat4 material.

Now this puzzles me....

All the suppliers I use state that to buy Cat4 material you must be in possession of the correct storage, plus year round display insurance.

So where does single event insurance fit in with that? If you have year round insurance why would you need single event cover and if you dont have year round insurance then you shouldn't be getting access to Cat4 material.

I must be missing something??

Stu

Get it delivered by the supplier straight to the firing site on the day of the display? I've heard of that being done.

According to the Firework Regs 2004 there doesn't appear to be a requirement to have storage or insurance to be supplied Cat4 fireworks.

There is however a specific offence to be in possession of Cat4 if you are not a Professional Display Company or employed by one. There are a list of exceptions for Council and Armed Forces etc.

So my understanding is even if you got a company to deliver to the site and you had single event insurance, if you are not a Professional or employed by one you are committing an offence just by being in possession of Cat4....

Might of course be totally wrong....

As a Professional Display Company you don't need a 1.1g store to be supplied or be in possession of 1.1g if it's direct to site for use, so do you actually need any store??? But then can you be a Pro Company without one???

I just think that single event insurance covering the handling and firing of Cat4 material opens a real can of worms and I can't really understand the rationale behind it at all.

If you know a display company well enough for them to consider supplying you with Cat4 then why not just do the show under their umbrella?

What about part/mis fired material? etc etc

Why not ask the Insurance Company directly? They must have done their own assessment of the scenario and taken into account any regulations that govern the supply of CAT4

As they had a vested interest i.e they were being paid for the insurance, I wasn't sur ethey would be 100% objective

Hmmm, not sure I agree there... that's like you or I sending a newbie out to run a show, and not knowing enough about them and their ability to be safe, not sure I would underwrite something / someone I was unsure about

I meant objective with what they said to moi, not objective in their decision to insure or not, if that makes sense
