Default Cheap Cable

Might be of interest to anyone who makes their own cables for a certain firing system....

This cable is £73 from CPC which is the cheapest I've found, available from here for £25.00 + p&p

If it's the same as I've used before, it's intended for wiring caravan/trailer sockets for cars, so is good quality and fairly high current rating, but it's NOT very flexible at all, so a bit unwieldy to coil up.

Been using it for a few years now and so have a few others and have had no problems with it. It is nowhere as thick as the caravan cable......!

I suspect it is exactly the same stuff.
All the cables I made for Stuart's Sam Woodward system used this sort of 8-way cable and looking back through my notes I have it down as CPC part number CBBR1179 (which doesn't exist) but this is CPC CBBR1178.

Maybe it *is* thinner than caravan cable, but I still think it's pretty inflexible!

I guess if would be fine for shorter runs, perhaps 10metres or so ?

Not so bad on MLE boxes where the cable enters on the side, but on the old Sam W. ones with the connectors on the top, the weight and stiffness of the cable tended to flip the boxes over!

Belay that! I'm talking rubbish.
It WAS the same make and style of cable, but the CBBR1179 I was using was 12-core, so it would have been half as stiff again!

I have made 40m runs using this and it coils up fine, even in the winter cold. No difference in handling compared to the original cables. As SWMBO coils most of them up after a show, she would have been giving me a right ear bashing by now if they were difficult to coil up!!
